The 2005-2006 school year marks the 20th year of the after-school program at St. Columba Catholic School.

This year, the after-school program will begin on Monday, September 19th, 2005.  The hours will be from dismissal until 7:00pm.  Applications will be available during the first week of school.  We expect to have some new activities in addition to the same "Clubs" we had last year, including Music, Tiger Shulmann's Karate, Fencing, Dance and Sports.

Our after-school program provides working parents with the assurance that their child is in a safe, structured environment.  Students benefit from various enrichment activities as well as time to relax and socialize.

Clubs

The after-school program offers special activities that may be of interest to your child.  Our Clubs Program is offered through Tiger Schulmann, Glenwich House of Music, Fencing Club and other professional instructors specializing in sports and piano.  Children will learn to develop to the best of their abilities, skills and talents in one or more of these activities.  As an added benefit, all classes will be held at St. Columba, eliminating the need to travel to a different location.

All current St. Columba students who are not enrolled in the after-school program full-time may still participate in club activities.

Club activities are scheduled once-a-week as follows:

Piano - Monday afternoon (begins 10/3)

Tiger Schulmann's Karate - Thursday afternoon (begins 10/6)

Sports - Friday afternoon (begins 10/7)

Fencing - Tuesday afternoon (begins 10/4)

Movement/Dance - Wednesday afternoon (begins 10/5)

Classes will take approximately one hour.  Students are grouped according to age, hence your child might not have his class until 4pm.   Please check with Mrs. Cunningham in the school office for your child's exact schedule.

Students not in the full-time after-school program, must be picked up at the end of the club activity.  You may also give written consent to have your older child dismissed on his own.

The cost for club activities will be billed on a monthly basis through the after-school program.  There is a small registration fee per child that includes uniforms/materials.  This is a flat registration fee regardless of how many clubs your child enrolls in per school year.  (fees will be posted here at the beginning of the school year).

Discipline

Our after-school program is designed to provide interest and motivation to the students with an emphasis on respect for rules, atmosphere, and staff.   By fostering this spirit of mutual respect and teamwork within a safe and fun environment, discipline problems are greatly reduced.  However, should a student become a chronic discipline problem, he or she will be dropped from the program.

Pick-up Time

All children must be picked-up between 6:45pm-7:00pm.  There is a late fee of $25 for each 15 minute period you are late beginning at 7pm.   Late fees are to be paid in cash to the staff person who has been caring for your child after 7pm.   Since the After-school Program ends at 6pm, this staff person has remained to care for child on their own time and must be compensated for childcare by you.

If you find that you will be late, please make arrangements to have your child picked-up by someone else by 7pm.  You MUST CALL THE OFFICE BY 4pm with the person's name, telephone number and a telephone number where you can be reached.

Please make sure that you include the name and telephone number of everyone authorized to pick up your child from the After-school Program on the After-school Program application.

Program Schedule

The after-school program begins on Monday, September 12, 2005 and ends on Thursday, June 16, 2006.

Hours are from 3:00pm (or dismissal) to 7pm, Monday through Friday, unless otherwise noted on the school calendar.

When the school is closed, there will be no after-school program.   However, on early dismissal or half-day sessions, the after-school program will be open at that time, except on the following days:

Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - Dismissal at 12pm

Wednesday, December 21, 2005 - Dismissal at 12pm

Friday, February 17, 2006 - Dismissal at 12pm

Wednesday, April 12, 2006 - Dismissal at 12pm

Registration

Applications for the after-school program can be picked up in the school office as of the first week of school and as long as space is available.  Your first month's fee must be submitted with your application.

Rates

A rates sheet is available when picking up the After-school application packet from the school office.  Please note that fees are billed regardless of how many days a child attends during the month.  However, during the months of December, February, April and June, the monthly fee will be prorated to reflect school vacations.

Method of Payment

The first month's program fee is to be submitted with your after-school application.  Subsequent payments will be billed monthly, on a separate invoice from school tuition.  All payments are to be made on time, within the first week of the month.   Students of families owing 2 months of after-school fees, will not be allowed to participate in the program until the account is brought up-to-date.

Fees may be paid by check, money order, Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express.
